Wee Jasper is a village
of about 80 people, situated in the
Goodradigbee Valley, at the western foot
of the Brindabella Ranges, on the
backwaters of Burrinjuck Dam. It is
located 336 km south-west of Sydney and
54 km south-west of Yass along a
partially unsealed road.
Wee Jasper is a popular holiday,
adventure sport and touring destination,
with beautiful reserves, idyllic
waterside picnic spots, pristine bush
areas and numerous caves. Wee Jasper sits
on a vast limestone seam, riddled with
caves. You can go on a guided tour of
Carey's Cave with an expert.
Then follow in the footsteps of Hume
& Hovell on their epic journey of
discovery by walking along the Hume &
Hovell Walking Track. There are numerous
walks taking from one hour to several
days.
You can go swimming at Billy Grace
Reserve, Swinging Bridge Reserve and
Micalong Creek. You can go for the short
walk up to the Waterfall at Micalong
Creek or down to the river junction.
There are a number of beautiful picnic
spots that are easily accessible. You can
go to any of the camping reserves, which
have the only public access to the river.
Billy Grace Reserve and Fitzpatrick
Trackhead have Electric BBQs available,
popular with campers. Gas BBQs can be
used at all times of the year except
during a total fire ban.
The bush areas around Wee Jasper are
popular with amateur birdwatchers who
come to catch a glimpse of over 56
atlased species of bird.
Wee Jasper is also great for fishing,
with many trophy-sized fish caught in the
Goodradigbee River and in the Burrinjuck
Dam.
